Our Direction Home

The Walrus held a luncheon at the University Club to debate the 'Surveillance Society - whose camera is on you and why don't you mind?

There were strong arguments for and against our invasion of privacy, and the monitoring and invasion of our privacy.
With much of the discussion hovering vaguely where individual rights and collective societal rights bleed into one.

I don't have the energy to rehash the debate here, but this did occur to me while the debate jabs were being dug in.

We need more forums, and opportunities to listen to and attend bona fide debates of relevant subjects that directly affect our lives. Far more would be garnered though old fashioned debate and discourse than listening to programmed Network and other bias opinions.

People, you and I, are ultimately responsible for the society we live in by what we silently acceptance, by our unchallenging hands-off approach to vital subjects, laws, rulings and policies.

Wouldn't it be......logical....to see everyone in society speak up and take control of the things that are not right, of the things that need addressing, and to have things the way they ought to be.

We need to unlearn this dysfunctional, and false sense of security [our irresponsibility] that our elected officials are actually doing their job, and doing it well, and hold our interests, and our country's interests in mind.

We need to take back the reigns and steer ourselves, [or in our case turn ourselves around], and head in the direction we would rather go. The direction we collectively know we ought to go, the direction we want to go, the one we all whine and pine for, but for reasons unknown, just don't do anything about it. Consequently, we're never on track.

If there were honest places to discuss things, many valid, relevant and deep insights, and points are in us to be made.

We need forums that don't dictate, but actually discuss and debate subjects.....the way people used to.

Just a thought that was sparked while listening to a crackling debate.

Indeed (and in our non-deeds) we allow and enable everything that is irrational and illogical to be.
Thank you
